An example of Gothic Revival architecture, a component of a large religious complex.

History

The construction of the new Evangelical church began in 1897 and finished in 1902, when the church was officially consecrated.

In 1902, a clergy house was also built. Its form corresponds to the Gothic Revival style of the church.

Description

The Evangelical church complex is located in the southern part of the town, on a land plot surrounded by the streets: Św. Antoniego, Seweryna, Szkolna and Bohaterów 14 Brygady. It was erected on a large, trapezoid-shaped plot of land. The residential and utility part is separated from the sacral part and has a separate entrance from Św. Antoniego Street. The clergy house is situated in the south-west corner of the land plot.

Gothic Revival style. The building was erected on a floor plan resembling the letter L. It is a one-storey, partly cellared building with a usable attic.

The building is made from red bricks laid with lime-cement mortar. The external walls are not rendered with plaster, unlike internal walls, which have a plaster coating. The roof truss is made of wood and has a purlin and rafter structure. Each wing has a separate roof - the eastern wing is gabled, while the western wing has a four-hipped roof.

All elevations are set on a plinth. The walls are crowned with cornices and the corners are accentuated by quoins. The windows were embellished with decorative pointed-arch surrounds and decorative tympana. The frames of doors, windows and other decorative elements are plastered. The western elevation, parallel to Św. Antoniego Street, serves as the façade. It is five-axial. The middle part in the form of a shallow avant-corps with a triangular top is the highest. It has a wide rectangular window on the ground floor and two narrower windows at the attic level. Above them, there is an inscription with the date of construction of the building - 1902. Each of the side parts has two windows. The southern elevation was designed in a similar way, with the door opening as the central axis. The southernmost window opening is blind. The northern elevation, parallel to Seweryna Street, has six openings. The second opening from the west contains a door, accessed via a steel platform.

The interior consists of three parts, each with a separate external door. The front part contains the apartment of the pastor. In the eastern part, there is a chapel and at the back there are utility rooms. The front part is three-bay, with stairs in the middle. The part at the back is two-bay.

The building can be viewed from outside all year round. It can be toured inside upon prior arrangement with the parish authorities.
