The structure is an example of a building with lavish architectural detail, which is an important element in the spatial layout of the city.

History

The process of development of individual zones and streets of the suburbs of Zielona Góra began as early as in the 14th century. The growing town needed land for residential, commercial and craft development. The area where the villa is located has evolved behind defensive walls quiet late, only in the 17th century. This suburban area, known as the ‘Lower’ (‘Dolny’), is visible on the map dating from 1784. The map shows the current al. Niepodległości, which was an unpaved road intersecting fields and public gardens at that time. Only when Zielona Góra was connected to a railway line in 1871 was the road regulated and plots of land were demarcated for future development, which was shaped mainly in the late 19th century and the early 20th century. Incomplete archival records on the villa have been preserved. The records suggest that the building was erected for merchant Friedrich Schorse in 1873. He was the owner of the villa until 1887. Then Emma Heine from Czerwieńsk took over ownership of the building. In 1933 Elizabeth Lemie from whom court assessor Georg Koch, PhD, and Franz Kucz, among others, rented a flat became the owner of the estate. In 1945 the local government took over ownership of the structure and since that time the building has been occupied for residential purposes. Minor alterations were made to adapt the interior to new functions. Currently, the structure has several owners, including an Evangelical parish and private companies. In 2008, the loft of the building underwent renovation, roof trusses were reinforced and the structure was insulated. The body of the building has been preserved in its original state without major changes. The villa is built in the historicism convention. The structure is one of the most representative buildings in the city.

Description

The building is free-standing and is located in the north-eastern part of the city, on the outskirts of the old town, in Niepodległości Avenue, on a plot partly surrounded with a wire fence, with an entrance on Kazimierza Wielkiego Street. The villa is built on a quadrilateral plan with numerous annexes; the south-eastern part of the building only has a ground floor, while the rest of the building has multiple storeys. The structure includes a basement. The part of the building on the ground floor is adjacent to external stairs and a terrace in front of the main entrance to the building. The body of the villa is covered with multi-hipped roofs with pronounced eaves, ornamented with decorative wood carvings. Avant-corps jut out from the facade of the building. The structure is made of brick. The building’s walls are covered with plaster on both sides. The facades feature architectural detail in the form of profiled window surrounds and surrounds framing entrance openings. The main entrance is framed by a portal surmounted by a tympanum with a cubic frieze. Most of the original window and door woodwork has been preserved. The basement feature the original ceramic brick floor and the terrace floor is covered with bicolour tiles.

Limited access to the monument. Privately owned.
