History
Szczawnica’s Lower Park was established between 1861 and 1868. The pavilion was erected in the early 20th century. It served as a concert space accommodating an orchestra to entertain the spa visitors and residents.
Description
It is located in the lower section of the park, near the park alley parallel to ul. Główna. The pavilion is a wooden structure in the Zakopane style. It was designed on an isosceles cross plan with an inscribed square. Its body is compact, one-level, covered with a tent, hipped roof, with four façades along the axis of avant-corpses with abutment roofs. At the intersection of the ridge, a hipped roof topped with a pinnacle. The wooden pavilion is an open framework structure rested on a quarry stone foundation. The roof truss is made of wood rafters. The roof is clad with metal sheet. Four-step cement stairs lead to the pavilion. The façades are openwork and three-axial. The construction beams are chamfered. The roof supporting columns are chamfered with separate heads and a decorative truss frieze. The avant-corpses are closed with decorative semicircular arcades. A truss balustrade fills the spaces between the posts. A beam, coffered ceiling inside with plank covering. The tips of the ceiling beams are finished in a cymoid shape. The gables are vertically boarded with planks featuring a “sun” motif.
The structure can be accessed from inside and outside.
