History
The arcaded house was erected in 1787. It underwent reconstruction in the 1970s. Initially, it belonged to a manager of church estate (commander). Its function changed a number of times: it served as an inn, a primary school after World War II and a culture centre from 1978 onwards. Currently, the building serves as the Commune Culture Centre.
Description
The building is located at Bolesław Śmiały Square. It is a front-gabled house. It was set on an elongated rectangular plan and has foundations made of broken fieldstones, bound by cement and lime mortar. A ground plate made of grated larch bales joined by dovetail joints rests on foundations. The building’s walls are made of larch bales, plastered on the inside. The house has a very rare structure of walls: tenon-post with corners are joined by dovetail joints. The arcades with stone columns form a distinctive element of the building. The walls, covered with a gable roof with a pediment at the front, form arcades resting on four stone Tuscan columns supporting the roof’s eaves. The roof truss is made of queen posts and roof is covered with wood shingles. The building has wooden, decorative window and door woodwork with blacksmithed hinges. Inside the building, the profiled beams of the ceiling are visible.
The feature is open to visitors; currently, it houses a Commune Culture Centre in Solec nad Wisłą.
