History

The mound dates back to the second period of the Bronze Age and most probably should be associated with the Trzciniec culture.

Description

The kurgan is situated on the eastern edge of the village, on an arable field, in the valley of the Siennica River, about 200 m to the south in a straight line from its bed. 

The mound is a single kurgan that is no longer well discernible in the terrain. It has been severely damaged by plowing and soil erosion. As preserved, it has a height of about 1.5 m. As a result of the damage, its diameter is now about 50 m. On the surface of the mound, there is a large number of movable artefacts: fragments of clay vessels, fragments of human bones and flint artefacts. 

The kurgan has been badly affected by agricultural activity and its state of preservation is deteriorating very quickly. 

Progress and findings of archaeological fieldwork

The kurgan has not as yet been examined by archaeologists. 

Surface surveys of the site as part of the ‘Archaeological Picture of Poland’ project were performed in 1987. 

During multiple field surveys carried out by the Voivodeship Heritage Protection Officer, a number of moveable artifacts were retrieved. On their basis, the mound is tentatively dated to the second period of the Bronze Age, which is associated with the Trzciniec culture.

Limited access to the monument. Any visits to the kurgan must be arranged in advance with the field owner.
