The filial church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Przytok is a brilliant example of the Classicist ecclesiastical architecture of the late 18th century.

Located on the outskirts of the village, the church attracts numerous tourists and is an important element in the cultural landscape of the Middle Odra region.

History

The church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Przytok was erected in the years 1776-1778. The feature was funded by the owner of the Przytok estate, M. von Stentsch. It functioned as an Evangelical church until 1945. The church was erected in place of an earlier brick temple from the 17th century that had suffered destruction. After World War II the feature was taken over by the Catholics. At the end of the 20th century renovation works were carried out in the interior of the temple, consisting in, among others, replacement of floor tiles. In 2007, owing to funds from the programme for the revitalisation of movable and immovable historic objects, the external façades of the site were renovated. No major alterations have been made to the structure of the temple. The church belongs to representational sites of the Zabór commune.

Description

The church in Przytok is situated on a small hill in the north-western part of the village, at a road from Stary Kisielin to Jany. The temple was built in the third quarter of the 18th century. The church area is partially lined with granite paving stones and partially overgrown with shrubs. A two-storey clergy house is located on the neighbouring plot. A wooden cross with Crucified Jesus stands in front of the church. A temple was built in the Classicist style. The building is oriented towards the east, made of brick and stone, aisleless and features a trilateral termination on the east side as well as two two-storey vestibules adjoining the temple at the north and south ends. A sacristy and a porch were added on the longitudinal axis. The church nave is covered with a gable roof, while the chancel is covered with a multi-hipped one. A square tower, covered with a tented cupola, adjoins the west façade of the temple. The main entrance to the temple is located on the ground floor of the quadrangular tower. The storeys of the temple and the tower are pierced by window openings terminating in arches. The interior of the church is covered with a wooden ceiling with galleries resting on wooden, square pillars. Balconies are adorned with panels in the form of regular polygons.  The preserved fixtures and fittings include, among others, a Baroque Revival altarpiece, two bells from 1930 and 1938 hanging in the tower, a pipe organ casing and a painting on canvas in the main altar, presenting the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (brought by persons displaced from the church in Waszkowice, currently Ukraine, after World War II).

The church is property of a religious community. It celebrates regular masses. It is open to the public.
