The place and the monument have historical and memorative value.They commemorate the execution and burial place of the heroes of the January Uprising.

History of the object

During the January Uprising, executions of the insurgents and their burials took place in this place. There was a gallows here and poles to which the Russians tied those who were to be shot. The dead were thrown into previously dug pits, which were filled with earth. Poles were putting up wooden crosses in this place, which the Russians removed. On 2 November 1916, on the initiative of a Łomża photographer, E. Zajączkowski, the first monument was erected in the form of a boulder placed on a mound made of stones, with an engraved cross in a wreath of thorns, crossed scythes and a plaque with the names of the executed insurgents. The present monument is a juxtaposition of elements from the previous monument (stone and a plaque on the left) and contemporary items.

Description of the object

Located on the eastern side of Szosa Zambrowska Street, between houses No. 55 and 59, on a plot in the form of an elongated rectangle. The plot is fenced with shrubs and trees along its boundary.

The monument is in the form of a boulder with an insurgents cross, year 1863, and the following words carved in it: BOJOWNIKOM / ZA WOLNOŚĆ OJCZYZNY / RODACY (To the combatants / for the freedom of the fatherland / Compatriots) and a date: 19.XI.1916 Next to this there are two plaques with the following inscriptions: TU SPOCZYWAJA POWSTAŃCY / STRACENI W 1863-1864 R. / Ś.P. ROZSTRZELANI: (This is the resting place of the insurgents / executed in 1863-1864 / of blessed memory shot:) CHODKIEWICZ JAN / CHONCZAK IZRAEL / ICZKOWSKI WŁADYSŁAW / KOJKA TOMASZ / KONIŃSKI ALEKSANDER / KRAJEWSKI / OBUCHOWICZ JULIAN / SZUMSKI / Ś.P. POWIESZENI: (.../ of blessed memory, hunged:) CHRZANOWSKI / KRULIKOWSKI and TU SPOCZYWAJĄ POWSTAŃCY / STRACENI W 1863-1864 R. / Ś.P. ROZSTRZELANI: (...and here are resting insurgents executed in 1863-1864 / of blessed memory shot:) KULESZA KONSTANTY / JEWREINOW SYLWESTER / POWIESZENI (hunged) / Ś.P.
