One of the few entirely preserved Dutch-type windmills in Western Pomerania. The structure is an example of folk industrial buildings (now used for tourist purposes) and a dominant feature in the local cultural landscape.

History

The windmill was built probably in the late 19th century; there is no information about the then owner (miller) or builders. After World War 2, the windmill was used until 1948 and operated by a local German miller. The mill supplied the inhabitants of Lędzin and the surrounding villages. Since the 1950s the building was leased for general farming purposes, and all mill equipment was transported to the mills in Gryfice. Today, the windmill is a private property. After the renovation and revalorisation in the 1970s/1980s, it was adapted for tourist purposes.

Description

The building is located at the east end of the village, about 250 m south of the road from Karnice to Trzebiatów, in a small raised area of land, along the axis of the access road.

The windmill was built on circular floor plan, measures about 10 m in diameter and about 12 m in height, and has the shape of a truncated cone. A camping building was added to the south side. The walls are built of ceramic bricks, plastered, and whitewashed. The ceilings are made of wooden beams with crossbeams. The rotary boat-shaped roof with a triangular pediment from the side of sails features a rafter structure and is covered with sheet metal. Rectangular window and door openings are crowned with segmental lintels. The façades feature a uniform design, are styleless, and accentuated by rhythmically spaced window openings and whitewashed plaster. The interior has three storeys and partitions which were added later. The windmill houses remains of the original fittings including a sail shaft with four sails (originally with sheet-like board partition) measuring about 8 m in length, and a wooden vertical shaft along the vertical axis of the building with cogwheels.

The structure can be viewed from the outside, from the access road.

Entering the plot of land is only possible by arrangement with the owner.
