History

A manor estate, probably of a defensive character at first, existed in Krzywcza already in the 16th century and belonged to: Orzechowski-Okszyc, Ostrowski Count Leliwa, Krasicki, Orzechowski, Boznański, Bukowski, Pawlikowski, Starzyński, Jocz and Bocheński families. In 1625 the Krasicki family erected a small castle or defensive manor in Krzywcza. The present manor house was built at the initiative of Bolesław Jocz at the turn of the 19th and 20th century in a style inspired by the “Polish manor house” tradition, near an old manor house existing at that time, which was soon demolished. The building that is currently referred to as an orangery was erected most probably in the late 18th century, while in the last quarter of the 19th century it was transformed into a residential outbuilding, at the Jocz family’s initiative as well. At that time, in place of formal gardens, a manor park was established. Its free arrangement is restricted by a hornbeam alley in the north and east. The manor house was renovated in 1928. After World War II the property was nationalised and relinquished to various users: the manor house was dedicated to serve as a health centre, from 1958 onwards it served as an agricultural school. Currently, it serves as a medical centre again.

Description

The manor complex is located in the north-eastern part of the town, in the area slightly sloping towards the south. It is restricted in the south-east by a road leading to Wola Krzywiecka, while on other sides it neighbours on the village housing development and arable fields.

The manor house was erected in the western part of the complex. The one-storey body with a basement, covered with a multi-hipped roof clad with interlocking sheet metal, is diversified at the front by a recessed portico framed by two avant-corps with half-hip roofs and two small dormers in the western slope of the roof. The feature was built of larch wood on a stone foundation. The symmetric front, west façade of the manor house has nine axes and features a five-axis recessed portico and six wooden columns as well as two bi-axial avant-corps on the sides, braced by pilasters on corners supporting a profiled cornice with a decorative carpentry work on the gables. Other façades were subtly and asymmetrically arranged; all windows are accentuated by simple window surrounds. The interior, originally two-bay, with a vestibule at the front and an enfilade arrangement of rooms, underwent alterations.

The orangery is located in the immediate vicinity of the manor house, in the north-western part of the complex. Set on a rectangular floor plan with shallow side avant-corps, it has one storey (two storeys in the avant-corps part) and is covered with a gable roof over the corpus and two independent gable roofs over avant-corps, with a small cuboidal annex in the east. The building is made of brick and stone, covered with ceramic roof tiles. Only the front façade bears traces of a decorative arrangement in the form of simple cornices between the storeys and pointed-arch cornices over the windows, repeating their original shape that has been preserved only in the northern avant-corps.

The landscape park includes old tree stands of native and domestic provenance; two outlying hornbeam alleys, arranged as screens protecting quarters of fruit trees planted in the early 20th century, are worthy of attention.

The historic monument is accessible. The feature is a property of self-government and houses a medical centre.
