At present it houses Coach & Carriage Museum.

History of the site

A granary in Galowice (Ger. Gallowitz) was erected in 1st quarter of 18th century. It was renovated in 1962. Since 1990s, it has not been used and has been falling into disrepair. In 2002, the Granary was purchased by the Gallen Foundation to house the Coach & Carriage Museum. The structure underwent full-scale renovation in 2002-2011. The renovation, which included the repair and conservation of the wooden structure, was carried out with respect for the historic substance. Only a few elements of the structure were replaced. The interior layout with a system of ladder stairs communicating individual floors was preserved. A fireproof staircase was made inside the Granary.

Description

The granary is located in the palace-park complex with a grange, at the western frontage of the grange courtyard. It faces the east and from the south it is connected with a line of farm outbuildings. Erected using a wooden post-and-beam structure, filled in with brick; the rear (western) wall is made of brick. It is built on a rectangular floor plan, it has three-storeys, covered with a mansard roof, with a two-storey attic. Inside, bream-framed floors supported by massive stools and braces. The storeys are connected by a system of single flight stairs. Façades are symmetrical, the front façade has six axes, small rectangular window openings with exposed beams of post-and-beam structure.

Visitor access. The Granary is open to visitors.
