A complex of three burial grounds dating from the pre-Roman period to the period of migration of peoples, located near the Noteć crossing in Żuławka Mała.

Despite the lack of sources, the burial ground complex can be classified as one of the main sites in research on the Roman influence period in the Noteć river valley.

History of the structure

The first phase of the settlement of the area is associated with the burial ground of the Pomeranian culture people, the second phase with the Oksywie group of the Wielbark culture, the next with the burial ground of the of Wielbark culture. The fourth phase is marked by graves of the Przeworsk culture from the late Roman influence period - the beginning of the Migration Period.

Description of the structure

Location of the historic structure. In the area of the Folk Culture Museum in Osiek nad Notecią, Branch of the District Museum in Piła, on a sandy moraine hill, by the road Osiek-Karolewo. The archaeological find adjoins the Łobżonka River valley in the west and the Noteć River valley in the south.

Description of the site. A complex of four flat burial grounds with a varied construction of burial pits, with a total area of 4-5 ha. A total of 439 crematory burials were discovered: urn burials and without urns, pits covered with pile remains, bell graves, box-type graves with and without stockade, and stone circles. In addition, more than 180 hearths and 6 cremation sites. The site was partially destroyed in 1972 when sand was excavated for construction purposes.

History of the site. Discovered accidentally in 1972 during sand extraction. Entered in the register of historic monuments in 1973.

Progress and findings of archaeological research. Rescue excavations carried out by W. Kuczkowski from the Leon Wyczółkowski Museum in Bydgoszcz in 1972-1977 and by Tomasz Skorupka in 1996. A burial ground of the Pomeranian culture, of the Oksywie group of the Wielbark culture, of the Przeworsk culture from the older Roman influence period, and a burial ground from the period of migration were discovered. A total of 1.5 ha of the site area was surveyed.
