History
Originally a ring fort, with an inner yard and a dry moat established approximately in the mid- 10th century.
Description of the structure
Location of the historic structure. 900 m to the south-east from the former school building in Niemojewiec, approx. 2 km to the north-east from Sulisław and approx. 2 km to the south-east from Pogrzybowo, in a deciduous forest complex.
Description of the site. A ring fort with a diameter of 55 m at the base, a rampart up to 2.6 m high, with an inner yard in the centre and relics of the moat, 7 to 12 m wide. Earthen earthworks with no confirmed additional structures (wooden boxes or a stone core).
Progress and findings of archaeological research. W. Schwarz’s research in the 1880s, F. Gibasiewicz’s before world war I, J. Dylik’s in the 1930s. In 1984 verification studies by A. Knapowska-Mikołajczakowa and A. Łosińska; survey research by G. Teske in 1986. It was found that the wooden structure of the rampart was missing. The earthen structure was formed by forest humus, beneath which brown sand with yellow lenses lay, and below the light grey sand of water sedimentation. Discovered movable artefacts were dated to phase D of the early Middle Age. In 1987 surface surveys were conducted as part of the AZP (Archaeological Picture of Poland) project.
Visitor access. The site is difficult to access, in a large, leafy forest complex.
