History
Conical hillfort (of the motte-and-bailey castle type) surrounded by a moat. It was built probably at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1315 Dyrzyco Banczesky is mentioned, and in 1352 Dzierzko.
Description of the structure
Location of the heritage site. In the middle-eastern part of the village, on the border between fields and meadows, 50 m south of a small stream. A place called “Na Haraju”.
Description of the site. The earthen structure is 32 m in diameter at the base and about 4 m high, surrounded by a wet moat about 3.5-4 m wide. The structure was damaged by trenches from World War II.
History of the site. Known at least since the interwar period, entered in the register of historic monuments in 1985.
Progress and findings of archaeological research. Surface surveys by A. Łosińska and A. Knapowska-Mikołajczyk in 1984, verification research by M. Głosek, L. Kajzer, A. Wójcik in 1986. In the centre of the earthen structure and in the northern part the remains of a burned residential tower. A manor house was erected on the mound, functioning until the 19th century; surface survey under the AZP (Archaeological Picture of Poland) project in 1986.
Visitor access. the site is open to the public.
