Description of the structure
Location of the historic structure. A hillfort called “burgstall” or “castle”, located about 1.8 km north-west of the village, west of the dirt road to Świerczyna, about 100 m from Górzno Lake, on the culmination of a hill
Description of the site. Upland hillfort, concave, circular with sickle-shaped pre-rampart area. Interior diameter about 55 m, rampart width about 10 m, outer height more than 3-4 m. On the west and east sides, breaks in the rampart. The hillfort is covered with a forest.
History of the site. Known from the mid-19th century. Entered in the register of historic monuments in 1934. Silver ornaments, dated after 1038, were discovered 100 m from the south shore of the lake. Moreover, east of the settlement, on a sand dune, a skeleton burial ground discovered before 1914, including a temple ring.
Progress and findings of archaeological research. Studies of various people from the mid-19th century. In 1923 an inventory by Józef Kostrzewski, in 1931 Zdzisław Rajewski and Zdzisław Zakrzewski, Andrzej Wędzki in 1946. In 1978, verification and survey studies by Zofia Hilczer-Kurnatowska, Alina Łosińska, and Aleksander Starzyński. In 1985 research within the framework of the AZP (Archaeological Picture of Poland) project. In 2008 during verification a settlement was discovered, dated to the C-D phase of the early Middle Ages.
Visitor access. The site is accessible to visitors, visible from the dirt road Górzno-Świerczyna.
