History
On the culmination of a moraine hill a hillfort of the Biskupin type was erected, dating back to the 5th-8th century BC. In the 9th and 12th centuries an early medieval hillfort functioned here.
Site description
Location of the historic structure. Located about 850 m west of Leśnictwo Królewiec, at the culmination of 63.5, 73.1 m above sea level called Żelazna Brama, between Lake Proboszczowskie and Rybojadło Wielkie.
Description of the site. Shaped like an elongated oval with a south-north orientation, ramparts up to 1.5 m high, a dry moat on the northern and north-eastern side
History of the site. Known since at least the beginning of the 20th century, entered in the register of historic monuments in 1980. Also referred to as the Rybojady II site.
Progress and findings of archaeological research. Survey research by Erich Blume in 1912, Adam Kołodziejski in 1961-62, surface surveys under the AZP (Archaeological Picture of Poland) project in 1990.
Visitor access. The hillfort is open to the public.
