The church of Our Lady, the Queen of Poland in Radzików is a representative example of ecclesiastical architecture built in a wooden timber frame structure in the territory of Lubuskie Voivodeship.

History

The village of Radzików has medieval origins. The church was erected in 1712 as a Protestant one, but it is probable that another temple had existed in the village beforehand. In the late 18th century the church was renovated upon commission of the von Zastrow family - owners of the local estate. Most probably the tower was not built together with the church, as it is not linked structurally with the main body. After World War II the church was taken over by the Catholics and consecrated on 10 March 1946. Three years later the structure was renovated, most likely in relation to the rearrangement of the interior for the needs of the Catholic religion. In the 1970s another renovation took place. The most recent renovation works were carried out in 2009. They included reinforcement of the structure, replacement of the roof cladding and crowning of the tower with a bulbous dome.

Description

The church is located at one of the access roads to the village, on an elevated terrain. It is enclosed with a square that originally functioned as a cemetery. It has a timber-frame, aisleless structure with a semi-hexagonal termination in the chancel section, is oriented towards the east and features a square porch at the south end and a square tower at the north end. The nave body is covered with a gable roof passing into the three-sloped one over the east part, while the porch is covered with a three-pitched roof. The tower is topped with a tented roof. The façades are accentuated by a timber frame structure with plastered infills. Only a pulpit has survived from the original fixtures and fittings.

Limited access to the historic building. It can be visited upon prior telephone arrangement.
