A palace complex

palace Henryków

Address
Henryków

Location
woj. lubuskie, pow. żagański, gm. Szprotawa - obszar wiejski

An example of the palace and park complex with a palace from the late 18th century that is interesting from the architectural point of view.

History of the structure

The earliest mention of Henryków dates back to 1260. The first owners of the estate were, as listed in the mid- 16th century, members of the von Nostitz family and later Johann Hermann (in 1650) and Melchior Schoberg (in 1666). In 1701 the estate was taken over by Johann von Knobelsdorff. One of his heirs - Caspar Adolf von Knobelsdorff - initiated the construction of the manor house in 1782. Redevelopment of the site in the Classicist style was carried out in 1826 by Friedrich von Neumann. The property belonged to the Neumann family until 1945. After the end of World War II the palace, the manor farm and the park were taken over by the State Agricultural Holding. Currently, the entire complex is in private hands.

Site description

The palace and park complex is located in the western part of the village, on the north side of the local Szprotawa-Niegosławice road. The Late Baroque palace is a central element of the complex. On the south side of the palace there is a square overgrown with grass, terminating at the east and west ends in farm buildings originating from the first half of the 19th century. A Classicist outbuilding from 1801 stands to the south-west of the residence and is slightly recessed from the rest of the buildings. The main entrance is located in the fence on the east side. An internal road leads into the complex, at the same time separating the park located to the north and occupying the area of 4.2 ha. A pond with an island, fed by water through a canal on the north side, is a central element of the park. The palace is a two-storey, brick building set on a rectangular floor plan, with basements underneath its structure and a usable attic on top, covered with a mansard roof with pediments. The plastered façades with a tall, rusticated plinth are accentuated by pilasters in the giant order. The entrances, located centrally on the south and north façade axis, are preceded by simple stairs and framed with portals and double pilasters. Additionally, the façade axis is accentuated by a wide, triangular pediment. The interior follows a two-bay layout, with a central vestibule covered with a groin vault. Some rooms include historic stuccowork and fireplaces.

Visitor access. Limited access to the historic building. Private property – the building can only be viewed from the outside.
