The filial church of the Infant Jesus in Chomętowo was erected in 1899.The Gothic Revival temple is located in the centre of the village, at a local road running from Osiek to Kolsk.

The body of the church has been preserved in its original state and the building is an important element in the spatial layout of the village.

History:

The currently existing Roman Catholic filial church of the Infant Jesus in Chomętowo was erected as an Evangelical church in 1899. The temple was funded by the von Brand family, owners of the village from the 1470s until the end of World War II. Hostilities of World War II did not lead to major damage to the building. The church was taken over by the Catholic community in 1947. Later, an organ was installed in the temple and the interior was rearranged through, among others, relocating an altar to the north pastophory. In the 1970s the church door was replaced with a new one and the roof cover was modified. In the 1980s painting works were carried out in the temple interiors. The Gothic Revival temple is a dominating vista in the spatial layout of the village.

Descrypton:

The filial church of the Infant Jesus in Chomętowo is situated in the centre of the village, close to the Osiek lake. The temple is situated on a slight elevation. The church plot is encircled by a metal mesh with a wicket and a gate resting on a concrete base. The area in front of the church is overgrown with grass. The Gothic Revival church is made of brick, not plastered, resting on stone and brick footing. The building has a stocky, partitioned body and was set on a Greek cross plan. A separate chancel, terminating in a polygon on the east side, includes annexes adjacent to its sides. On the west side, there is a cuboid tower crowned with a gabled cupola that adjoins the main body of the church. Separate fragments of the main body of the temple are covered with gable roofs, while the chancel is surmounted with a multi-hipped roof. Small basement rooms are located under the pastophories. The façades are pierced by pointed-arch window and door openings. A rose window is situated above the entrance. The temple façades are supported by buttresses crowned with skirt roofs. The façade is adorned with pinnacles on the tower and church gables. The interior of the temple is covered with ribbed groin vaults. The original fittings and décor of the temple have survived. The fixtures and fittings and the décor of the church include, among others, a Gothic Revival altarpiece, a wooden altar stone from the early 20th century, wooden benches from the early 20th century, a cast iron crucifix with a brass passion from the 19th century and two bells hanging in the tower: the larger one from the 18th century and a smaller one from the 1920s.

The church is property of a religious community. It celebrates regular masses. It is open to the public.
