The filial church of St Stanislaus of Szczepanów in Tuchola Żarska, originally belonging to the Evangelical Church, was erected in 1597.

History

The church of St Stanislaus of Szczepanów in Tuchola Żarska was erected in 1597. At first, the building served as an Evangelical church. Redesigned in 1750 and in the 1980s, it lost its stylistic features. Hostilities of World War II did not lead to major damage to the building. After World War II the feature was taken over by the Catholics. The church underwent major refurbishment in 2010. In the course of works the roof cover was modified and new sheet metal elements were installed, among others. Apart from the palace complex located nearby, the temple belongs to the oldest and most interesting historic features of the village.

Description

The church of St Stanislaus of Szczepanów in Tuchola Żarska is located in the southern part of the village, at a local road leading to Lubsko. The temple is situated on a small plot overgrown with several trees. The area in front of the church is partially lined with cement flooring and paving units. The temple is a stone and brick, aisleless building erected on a rectangular floor plan.  A chapel and a porch adjoin the main body at the south end. The church roof is of a hip type, featuring a steeple in the central part that is crowned with a tented roof. The façades are pierced by two levels of windows: square ones at the bottom and the ones terminating in a segmental arch at the top. The church walls include epitaph plaques of the nobility. One of them commemorates Barbara, wife of Joachim von Knobelsdorff. The historic fixtures and fittings of the church include a pump organ acquired from one of the churches in the Silesia.

The church is property of a religious community. It celebrates regular masses. It is open to the public.
