The church in Lubiechnia Mała is a representative example of a village church erected as a wooden frame structure, with preserved original décor as well as fixtures and fittings of the interior.

History of the site

The village of Lubiechnia Mała was first mentioned in written records in 1405. It belonged, among others, to the von Sydow, von Ludwig and von Berg families. A temple probably existed in the village already in the 14th century, while in the period of the Reformation it was taken over by Evangelicals. The present church building was erected in 1669 as an Evangelical one, upon donation of the von Ludwig family. In the years 1813-1818 the feature was renovated and a wooden tower was added on the west side at the initiative of the von Berg family. In the late 19th century the church was equipped with a pipe organ casing. A renovation of the building, carried out in the 1920s, covered, among others, the reinforcement and partial replacement of structural elements. After World War II the church was taken over by the Catholics and consecrated in 1947.

Description ofe the site

The church is located in the northern part of the village, on a gentle elevation, surrounded by a stone wall. It is oriented towards the east, set on a rectangular floor plan, aisleless, terminating in a semi-hexagon in the chancel section and featuring a frame structure. A square, wooden tower adjoins it on the west side, while on the south side - a porch. The main body of the church is covered with a gable roof passing into a three-sloped one in the eastern part. The three-storey tower is surmounted with a tented roof, while the vestibule - with a three-hipped one. The façades are articulated by a frame arrangement of the structure. The façades of the tower are covered with weatherboards, similarly as the western wall of the main block. The entrance is located in the porch and on the ground floor of the tower. Original arrangement of the interior with galleries has survived. The fixtures and fittings as well as the décor have also remained intact: a Baroque altarpiece, a pulpit, benches, a raw beamed ceiling and ceramic floor tiles. The pipe organ was partially damaged.

Visitor access. Limited access to the building. It can be visited upon prior telephone arrangement.
