In the middle of the 19th century, Jewish families living in small towns in the Kamieński district close to each other started making efforts to establish their own cemetery.

This group included the Cohnnreich family from Stepnica, Cohn and Levy from Żarnów and Hirschbaum from Rzystnowo. These families belonged to the Jewish communities in Kamień Pomorski and Wolin, but decided to have a burial place closer to home.

The Description

The site for the cemetery was selected at the western edge of the village of Bogusławie (German: Birkenwalde), on the northern side of the Stepnica - Goleniów road. The cemetery was used for burial purposes until the 1930s. It is estimated that several dozen people have been buried there by this time.

Today, its historical boundaries are still legible. It is defined by a dirt road to the southeast and to the northeast by an arable field. Its vegetation distinguishes the cemetery area and significantly preserved old trees. A row of oak trees is visible in the central area. Unfortunately, only a few fragments of slabs and one tombstone base have survived on the surface of the cemetery. Hollows after the graves are visible. In addition, there are 2 m deep pits in the cemetery, which are probably the remains of fortifications of artillery positions from World War II.

The necropolis area belongs to the State Forests (Goleniów Forestry Division). In 2022, the cemetery was marked as part of the project to describe and mark Jewish cemeteries in Poland, carried out by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews and the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (NID) under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
