History
The present house was built in the second half of the 18th century, in the place of the older one. It is also possible that it is a result of adaptation of an older structure. It is probable that originally, there was the weighing house of Bochnia located here.
Description
The house is located in a frontage of the market square of Bochnia. It is late Baroque in style. It is built on a floor plan shaped as an elongated rectangle, the interior layout is of four-bay type. It is a two-storey building, covered by a Polish roof laid with roof tiles. It is made of brick. It has a three-axis façade topped with a gable with an ogee profile with volutes. In the gable, there is a symbol of Divine Providence. The façade of stucco type, Baroque and classical in style, with a frieze at the base. Window surrounds at the first floor level are rectangular, profiled, with foliage decoration in window hoods. On the ground floor, there are sail vaults on arches and barrel vaults. It is one of the most valuable historic market square buildings. At present, there are shops at the ground floor level. On the ground floor façade, there is an inscription “House of Friends of Bochnia”, as the Association of the Friends of Bochnia and Bochnia Region has its seat there.
The structure can be accessed from the outside all year round, and inside in the opening hours of the Association of the Friends of Bochnia and Bochnia Region.
