Who we are?

A modern cultural institution responsible for maintaining the nationwide database of historical monuments, issuing opinions and expert’s reports pertaining to activities which involve such monuments and shaping the social awareness of the value and preservation of our cultural heritage.

European Heritage Days

The European Heritage Days are an international social and educational project the aim of which is the promotion of local cultural heritage. Every year in September, numerous historical monuments and places of cultural interest are made available to visitors free of charge.

Main objective of “Volunteering for Heritage” programme is the promotion of community involvement in the system designed to ensure the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage through the cooperation of non-governmental organisations, local government authorities, monument protection services and volunteers.

Protection of intangible cultural heritage

Intangible cultural heritage comprises the traditions, customs, knowledge and skills which are passed down through generations. Intangible cultural heritage fosters social bonds and creates a sense of identity. The National Heritage Board of Poland performs activities aimed at the protection and reinforcement of various manifestations of intangible heritage in our country.

The Muskau Park, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as well as on the List of Monuments of History, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and garden design – a sophisticated composition incorporating many features, natural and man-made alike.

A film prepared by the National Heritage Board of Poland at the request of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. It is training material for, among others, local government officers, in which experts show how to look after the objects of wooden secular architecture and rescue their tourist-attracting and service potential.

The National Heritage Board of Poland, in cooperation with TVP Kultura, filmed new episodes of a series about national heritage – “On the trail of extraordinary places – Monuments of History” (Pol.: Szlakiem miejsc niezwykłych – Pomniki Historii”).
