The house was built as an element of the model, experimental housing estate accompanying the WuWA exhibition, which is an excellent example of the implementation of modern trends in European urban planning and architecture of the 1920s .

History

The building was erected in 1929; after 1945, the loggia in the house no. 29 was converted into an enclosed structure. The design was produced by Paul Häusler, who also collaborated with Fritz Kleemann on the building’s interiors (the latter being responsible for the design of the bedrooms). The garden was designed by Julius Schütze.

Description

The building forms part of the southern frontage of the Zielonego Dębu street.

This semi-detached house with a simple, austere outline features two identical, two-storey apartments, each designed for a family of 7 and having a surface area of 148 square metres.

The outer walls are made of brick, with the empty spaces inside the structure being filled with waste materials (slag). The inner partition walls are of the so-called “Schugk” type. The house uses brick infill ceilings. The building is covered with a mono-pitched roof clad with roofing felt. The façades are covered with plaster and are completely smooth, featuring no divisions whatsoever. The house features modern window joinery.

It is a free-standing, two-storey building with a basement, covered by a flat roof. The overall outline of the house is enlivened through the inclusion of entrance annexes preceded by covered external stairs (northern façade) as well as of first-floor loggias (façade overlooking the garden); the house also features terraces at the ground-floor level, which are also located on the garden side of the building. Inside, the day rooms were all placed on the ground floor of the house, with the bedrooms and the accompanying amenities positioned on the first floor. The living room and dining room are connected by glazed doors, allowing both of these rooms to be combined into a single whole and to open them up towards the terrace and the garden beyond.

Limited access to the historic building. Private property - interior tours not available. The housing estate can only be viewed from the outside.
