Description

The village of Witoszów Dolny is located about 5 kilometres west of the city of Świdnica. The palace is located in the western part of the village, on the northern side of the main road. Towards the north lies a green area and a small, neglected pond; from all other sides, the palace is surrounded by manor farm buildings which form a trapezium-shaped courtyard ahead of the palace itself.

The palace in its current form dates back to the fourth quarter of the 19th century, incorporating the remains of an earlier structure, including the remnants dating back to the 16th century. The oldest surviving section of the palace is the quadrangular northern wing, the ground floor section of which contains two narrow rooms with stone barrel vaults. During the 19th century, the entire complex was the property of the Świdnica municipal authorities, serving as the centre for the local forest administration. The overall design of the palace, although predominantly Historicist, also incorporates pieces of Art Nouveau detailing such as the metal fittings on window and door joinery or the window grillwork.

The palace was designed on an elongated rectangular floor plan; it is a two-storey building with a two-bay interior layout and a twelve-axis façade design, with the southern façade featuring an asymmetrically positioned avant-corps, facing the courtyard and crowned with a decorative gable. The irregular layout of the palace is the direct result of the chronology of its individual sections, which were added during different periods. The oldest section of the palace is made of granite, while the most recent parts are brick structures. The basement of the northern wing features vaulted ceilings of the barrel type; similar barrel vaults, albeit based on a basket-handle arch and incorporating lunettes into their design, are also used for two rooms in the north-western corner of the building. Other rooms feature segmental brick ceilings supported by steel beams as well as flat wooden ceilings, the latter featuring counter-ceilings attached underneath. A decorative tiled stove can be admired in one of the rooms. The roof is of the hip type, clad with grey beaver tail roof tiles arranged in a scale pattern. The surface of the roof is enlivened by the presence of ornate dormers. A wrought steel decorative railing runs along the roof ridge, providing the finishing touch.

Somewhere around the year 1970, an office annex (currently serving residential purposes) was added to the northern wing, replacing the now-vanished verandah positioned on 16th-century foundations. The northern façade of the palace was also redesigned at that point.

At the present stage, the palace serves as a residential building and may only be viewed from the outside.
