The motte (site no. 1, AZP 95-42/5) remains an immensely valuable find from an archaeological standpoint.

Location and description

The historical monument is located at the edge of the village, south-west of the cluster of houses forming the village proper. The remnants of the structure are situated on a small hill standing by the valley of a nameless stream flowing into the Kłodnica river. The small, picturesque burgstall is easily discernible in the surrounding terrain, its total surface being approximately 0.3 hectares.

History

The Widów motte is believed to date back to the 14th century. It should also be added at this stage that the very first written references to the village of Widów date back to the year 1305.

Condition and results of archaeological research

In 1970, a series of exploratory excavations was performed on the site. Three small excavations were made in the uppermost section of the site, with a dozen-odd fragments of medieval pottery being unearthed.

The site is accessible all year round.
