Residential building

residential building Ustka

Address
Ustka, Czerwonych Kosynierów 21

Location
woj. pomorskie, pow. słupski, gm. Ustka (gm. miejska)

It is an example of a residential building erected using the traditional half-timbered construction technique.

The construction and the form of the house are distinctive of the region of the seaside strip near Słupsk.

History

The existing building was erected in 1804 for captain Peter Haase from Ustka. About 1900, the house was renovated and probably plastered. It has been renovated recently, and the original appearance of its façades has been restored. The building houses the Baltic Culture Centre.

Description

The building is located on the site of a former fishing settlement, currently in the central part of the town. It is situated in the eastern frontage of Kosynierów street, in a medium-density housing development.

It was built using the half-timbered construction technique with plastered infills. The gables are weatherboarded. The two-bay building was erected on a rectangular floor plan with a vestibule on the axis. It is a two-storey structure, covered with a gable roof.

The front (western) façade is symmetrical, with the main entrance to the building placed on the axis. The back (eastern) façade is asymmetrical, with the yard entrance placed off the axis. Door and window openings are rectangular, with decorative wooden joinery (modern; the door is modelled on the earlier one). The double front door has classical decoration in the form of profiled panels and triangular pediments. The single yard door has profiled panels. The window joinery has a transom bar and posts in the form of pilasters, with capitals in the form of a profiled roll with small bumps. The clearly apparent structure of the façade, featuring a checkerboard arrangement of posts and beams and the colours of wood contrasted with plastered infills, serves as a decoration of the building. On the lintel beam of the front door, there is the following inscription: 18 P.H. 04.

The site is accessible to visitors. The building houses the Baltic Culture Centre.
