The villa was built in 1889 and named Ukrainka. A sister structure was erected nearby and was named Janina. Both houses were owned by two brothers, Walery Eliasz Radzikowski and Stanisław Eljasz-Radzikowski. Stanisław Eliasz-Radzikowski was an architect and designer. In Szczawnica he designed, for example, the neo-Gothic Church of Saint Adalbert, the Gościnny Manor (also known as the Kurhaus) and the villas Ukrainka and Janina. Walery Eliasz was a painter and a co-founder of the Tatra Society. He painted multiple landscapes of the Pieniny Mountains in watercolors. He authored The Illustrated Guide to the Tatra Mountains, Pieniny Mountains and Szczawnica, published in 1870. The brothers sold both houses in 1909. The Janina villa was occupied by Jan Maniecki, the health resort manager. The building was demolished later on. One of the residents of the Ukrainka house was Karol Kozubski, engineer and the first director of the Szczawnica power plant, opened in 1932. The villa also served health purposes. After WW2, it was renamed as Danusia. It was taken over by the healthcare services company, Państwowe Przedsiębiorstwo Uzdrowisko Szczawnica. It house some workers’ flats. Today, the building is a hotel facility.

Description

The villa sits in the upper part of Plac Dietla, on a steep slope. It can be accessed via a winding road running out of Plac Dietla. It is an example of a picturesque trend of the health and spa architecture. The villa is built on a rectangular, two-bay plan. It is set on a compensatory base. It is a one-level building, with a two-level side wing and a two-level square tower with stairs. It is covered with gable roofs, and the tower with a tented roof. It is a wooden, log structure set on a stone foundation. The roofs are covered with sheet metal. The façade is boarded with overlapping planks arranged vertically. The four-axis front façade is preceded by a two-axis avant-corps with a dormer accommodating a balcony. The south façade has the form of a two-level pavilion, preceded by a two-level porch supported on pillars, with openwork elements.

The structure can be accessed from inside and outside.
