Location and description

The hillfort is located 2.5 kilometres to the south-east of the Prochy village, near the now-defunct settlement known as Faustynowo, at the bottom of the valley around the northern channel of the Obra river which forms part of a Natura 2000 site.

The total surface of the hillfort is 1.68 hectares; the hillfort rises approximately 2.5 metres above the base of the earthen structure below and consists of two ramparts: the lower outer rampart and the taller inner rampart. Fragments of the moat can still be discerned in the eastern and southern section of the site.

History

The site was known to researchers from the 19th century onwards. Exploration began during the interwar period and then continued during the 1970s and the 1980s .

Condition and results of archaeological research

A surface survey of the site was conducted during the interwar period by K. Jażdżewski in 1929 and by W. Kočka in 1935. After the war, W. Śmigielski began his own programme of research in 1975. In 1976, under the direction of Z. Kurnatowska, a site survey was conducted and a schematic of the entire hillfort was drawn up.

Site accessible to visitors. During spring months, the neighbouring plain may become flooded.
