It belongs to few buildings associated with the medieval hospitals in the region.

History

The chapel was built in the 15th century outside the town walls, in the so-called Frankfurter suburbs, as an element of a hospital complex. In the period of Reformation, it was taken over by Protestants. The cemetery surrounding it had been used as the main city graveyard since the 18th century. Currently, the chapel is communal property, and the cemetery is not used.

Description

The chapel is located approx. 200 m to the north-west from the very town centre, in a cemetery fenced with a stone wall. The building is late-Gorhic in style and oriented. It is made of brick, erected on a rectangular floor plan, with a chancel terminating in a semi-hexagon. It is a building of a single-space type. The body is reinforced with buttresses and covered with a gable roof, stepped over the chancel. Windows and portal are topped with pointed arches and have profiled brick reveals. The western gable is articulated with high blind windows and topped with pinnacles. Inside, there is a wooden ceiling.

The site is open to the public. It can be visited by prior telephone arrangement.
