A monumental hospital edifice, designed in the Gothic Revival style and towering above the surrounding village landscape.

History

Fourth quarter of the 19th century.

Description

The building is located on an elevation in the western part of the village, near the road leading from Wrocław to Świebodzice (DK 35). The building was erected during the fourth quarter of the 19th century as a hospital of the Order of Malta. Positioned on the east-west axis, the building is designed on an elongated rectangular floor plan, with a taller and slightly projecting central section. The side wings formed as a result of the above arrangement are designed as three-storey structures covered with three-sloped roofs, their façades following a five-axial layout - with the exception of the second floor, where a ten-axial layout is applied instead. The middle section takes the form of a four-storey, four-axial avant-corps with a projecting porte-cochère, above which rises the semi-hexagonal end section of the inner chapel. The tall hip roof above the central section of the building was originally topped with a slender steeple which has, unfortunately, nor survived to the present day. The façades of the building are lined with clinker brick; most of the bricks are tan in colour, with rust-coloured bricks being used to accentuate architectural detailing. Ruins of a utility building adjoin the hospital to the west. During the Nazi period, the hospital was most likely occupied by the organisation known as Lebensborn. Today, the structure remains disused.

The site of the building remains under surveillance, with the building itself being off-limits to visitors.
