History

The palace in Maciejów was built on the basis of a design prepared by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans in approx. 1790, when the village of Maciejów belonged to count Gottlieb Ernest, son of Karol Erdmann von Henckel Donnersmarck from Świerklaniec. At the turn of the 18th and the 19th century, the residence was owned by count Franciszek von Gaschin who sold it to Ernst Filip von Bethusy-Huc. In 1886, baron Oskar von Rothkirch-Pantheu became the new owner of the estate. In 1898, Maciejów was taken over by count Bernard von Prittwitz-Gaffron, and in 1909 - by Gustaw Staroste. From 1917, the palace was managed by count Jochann Broel-Plater whose successor was, in 1922-1945, Kurt Dobers.

Description

The palace is situated in the central part of Maciejów. To the west of the building, there is a park, and to the east - a cour d’honneur in front of which there is a yard with manor farm buildings.

The palace has two storeys. It was built on a rectangular floor plan, from brick. It is plastered, with a porte-cochère on the axis of the front façade. It is topped with a high hip roof. The façades are symmetrical: the eastern façade is eleven-axial, the western one - nine-axial, and the northern and the southern façade have six axes each. The western wall, similarly as the front one, is enlivened with a shallow avant-corps on the axis, topped with a triangular pediment.

The façades are articulated with identical rectangular window openings in surrounds. Spaces between windows in side façades are decorated with stucco festoons.

The interior has a two-bay layout, with a corridor between the suites of rooms and a hall and a drawing room on the axis. Ceilings over the ground and first floor are flat. In the basements, there are barrel vaults with lunettes and sail vaults.

The surviving original fittings of the interior include a set of Romantic wall paintings from the turn of the 18th and the 19th century in the drawing room and an original fireplace.
