The Chapel of St John Nepomucene is a Baroque central-plan building; in its immediate vicinity, on a hill, there are Stations of the Cross from 1894.

History

The chapel, founded by Dawid Walke - a miller from Jawornica, was built in the years 1727-1730 and dedicated on 11 August 1730. The main altar of St John Nepomucene from 1733 was made by a sculptor from Kłodzko, Kark Sebastian Flacker. The two side altars — one of Our Lady of Sorrows and the other of St Francis of Assisi — were brought from the parish church in Lewin Kłodzki in 1772. Before 1841, a carpentry master from Lewin — Franz Stephan — made a pulpit, pews, and a music gallery (the pulpit was founded by a resident of Lądek called Reinsch). In 1889, the chapel roof and its steeple were renovated. Probably immediately afterwards, Lensch and Wolke (Volke), painters from Lądek Zdrój, made the interior wall paintings. Until 1937, the building was under the guardianship of hermits living nearby. In 1894, Stations of the Cross made by Rev. Gayer from Ołdrzychowice were placed on the hill behind the chapel. They were founded by the hermit Benedikt Seidl. The dedication ceremony took place on 24 September 1894.

Description

The chapel is situated to the south of the buildings of Lewin Kłodzki, at the intersection of roads leading to Taszów and Kocioł, at the foot of a hill on which there are Stations of the Cross. The oriented chapel, made of brick and stone and covered with plaster, has a floor plan in the shape of a rectangle with cut-off corners. It is covered with a mansard roof surmounted by an arcaded steeple with a bulbous dome. The façades are crowned with a cornice and partitioned with two-coloured frame divisions, which accentuate the recessed decorative panels made of plaster. The window openings have smooth surrounds. In the western façade, there is an entrance opening framed by a portal, over which there is a keystone with the initials of the founder: “DW” and the date “1727”. The central part of the aisleless chapel is covered with a dome supported by pendentives. The plafond is covered with a painting depicting the recovery of the body of Saint John Nepomucene from Wełtawa, probably created by Lensch and Volke from Lądek Zdrój. The main altar, commissioned by Dawid Walke, was made in 1733 by Karl Sebastian Flacker from Kłodzko. The side altars from ca. mid-18th century were moved from the parish church in Lewin Kłodzki in 1772. The music gallery, the pulpit, and the pews were made before 1841 by Franz Stephan from Lewin Kłodzki.

The historic monument is accessible.
