Address
Leoncin
Location
woj. mazowieckie, pow. nowodworski, gm. Leoncin
It is an example of a feature with a central arrangement, with an internal choir gallery located above the entrance.
History
The chapel was erected most likely in the late 17th century in Głusk near Leoncin, which at that time served as the commune centre, as a vote of gratitude for Stefan Czarniecki’s victory over the Swedes. In 1837 it underwent a comprehensive renovation funded by the starost, Stanisław Wysocki. It was moved to its current location in 1870.
Description
The chapel is made of oak wood (ground plate) and pine wood (walls), has a log structure, with lap corner joints including hidden dowel pins, covered with vertical weatherboards on the outside. The floors and ceilings are made of boards. The interior has a single space with an internal choir gallery located above the entrance.
The building has an octagonal floor plan and is symmetrical, with high walls, covered with an octagonal roof clad in wood shingles, topped with a lantern with a crucifix. The entrance is preceded by a porch covered with a gable roof also clad in wood shingles. The rectangular windows of the church are topped with segmental arches.
The access to the building is difficult - only during funerary ceremonies and around the All Saints Day or following previous arrangements with the parish priest.
