History

On 11 July 1943, near Krasowo-Cząstki village, a military confrontation between partisans of the National Army and the occupant’s troops took place. During the fights, the partisans killed 32 Germans and wounded many more. In retaliation, on 17 July 1943, the Nazi troops pacified the Krasowo-Cząstki village. SS military police and Wehrmacht troops shot 69 men, 92 women and 97 children. In 1946, next to the barn where the mass murder took place, a brick chapel was erected by efforts of rev. Józef Kaczyński and surviving residents of the village. In 1985, on the 40th anniversary of the victory over Fascism, an urn with earth collected from 24 villages of the Łomża region pacified by the Nazis was buried in the ground.

Description

The cemetery is located in the northern part of the village, on the western side of the road to Krasowo-Wólka.

It was established on a rectangular floor plan and is surrounded by a metal mesh. Along the gate axis, there is an alley leading to the chapel; mass graves with commemorative plaques are symmetrically arranged on its both sides. Nearby, there is a monument of sandstone with a relief showing Christ in Gethsemane as well as two cast concrete crucifixes with representations of angels.

A brick chapel, on a rectangular floor plan, with a semi-circular chancel, covered with gable roof (semi-conical over the chancel), lined with steel tile. In front of the entrance, there is a portico resting on four pillars, crowned with a triangular, corrugated gable. A single-space interior. Inside, there is an exhibition concerning the mass murder.
