The forge is one of the two such structures surviving in Cracow. It is an example of architecture associated with rural technology from the 19th century.

History

Mydlniki was a subsidiary village. Its name originates probably from flushing of paddock ores. It is also possible that it is associated with soap production. The village was incorporated to Cracow in 1973. The forge was created in approx. mid-19th century.

Description

The forge is located in the former village of Mydlniki, by Balicka Street, on the opposite side of the parish church. It is classical in style. It was built on a rectangular floor plan and covered with a gable roof. It is made of brick, plastered, and the roof is laid with tiles. The façades feature frame partitions. On the front façade, there are arcades resting on three pillars and a triangular pediment with a semi-circular window in the middle. Today, the building houses a local library.

The building can be accessed from the outside all year round, and inside in the opening hours of the library.
