The inn in Kościerzyce is one of the few surviving buildings in the Opole region that used to fulfil such a function.

History

The first mention of the village of Kościerzyce dates from the end of the 13th century. In the early 14th century, a church was erected in the centre of the homestead. In the 1st half of the 19th century, an inn was opened at one of the entry routes to the village. In the 1970s, the inn building was converted to fulfil a residential function. Currently, it is not used.

Description

The former inn is located in the south-east part of the village, by the road to Czepielowice and Stobrawa. It is set on an elongated rectangle plan with a quadrilateral extension to the north-west. It is a brick, one-storey building with a basement. It was covered with a gable roof; originally, the roof had two rows of ox-eye windows. Today, only the lower row has survived with seven skylights.

The façades are plastered with the exposed plinth section. They are articulated with rectangular window openings. Corners have been highlighted in the eleven-axis front façade; the central axis is flanked by pilasters and exhibits a set of stairs with full-stone balustrades. The gable façades in the attic section are decorated with recesses having four window openings each, separated by a shared cornice at the bottom. The lower part of the east façade has no divisions, and the west façade features irregularly spaced window openings and a blind window.

The interior of the old inn was two-bay with a hall in the first bay of the central axis and a staircase in the other bay. The cellars had a barrel vaulting. Today, neither the architectural design nor the equipment of the inn have survived.

The monument is available to visitors from outside.
