The palace in Janów is an example of a residence built in the Historicist style.

History

The oldest, northern part of the palace and manor farm complex in Janów was built in the second half of the 18th century. It included a residence and a granary. In the first half of the 19th century, subsequent manor farm buildings were erected (stable, sheepfold, barns, and granaries). In approx. 1900, the estate was bought by the Moll family. At that time, the residential part of the complex was thoroughly re-designed. The palace was extended, and a fencing with a gate house and a gazebo was set around the park.

In the second half of the 18th century, the estate in Janów was owned by the von Tschirsky family; then it became property of the Geppert family, and then the Pfeil family 1846) and the Winkler family (fourth quarter of the 19th century.). In the early 20th century, the palace was purchased by the Moll family. After 1945, the estate was nationalised and included into a State Agricultural Holding (PGR). Today, the palace remains in private hands.

Description

The palace in Janów is located in the north-eastern part of the village, within a palace and manor farm complex enclosed with a wall fence with an entrance gate from the west. On the northern side, there is another driveway, and the complex adjoins the bend of a road leading from Pogorzela to Łosiów.

The building is located in the northern part of the complex. It is surrounded by a park. In its closest vicinity, there is a granary (on the west), and a gazebo (on the east). The palace is made of brick and its façades are covered with plasterwork. After the re-designing works carried out in the early 20th century, the main section of the palace has a rectangular floor plan with two wings from the north (at the eastern and western corner), and an angled wing added from the east. Each individual part of the building is covered with a separate mansard roof, with numerous dormer gables. The top section of the eastern wing forms an octagonal tower, circumscribed by a terrace in the top section and covered with a bulbous tented roof. The body of the palace is diversified and mostly two-storeyed, with a residential attic and basements. The façades are articulated with rectangular window openings of various sizes. The entrance to the palace is located on the main axis of the western façade. It is preceded by a flight of steps. Over the entrance, there is a spacious terrace and a two-axial wall dormer. The southern façade is preceded in the middle with a flight of steps and topped with a triangular, six-axial dormer. In the bottom section of the eastern axis, there is a three-sided bay window. The wings of the northern façade are comprised of two parts - single- and two-storeyed. The upper sections are topped with a triangular pediment with volutes, and the lower ones are framed by bay windows. In the eastern part, there is a loggia.

The original surviving décor items of the palace include one of the Late Baroque portals, and from the 20th century (when the palace was re-designed), part of neo-Classical décor and architectural detail has been preserved.

Limited access to the monument. Private property.
