Residential building

tenement house Grodków

Address
Grodków, Warszawska 3

Location
woj. opolskie, pow. brzeski, gm. Grodków - miasto

The tenement house at 3 Warszawska Street is an inseparable part of the urban layout of Grodków.

History of the structure

The tenement house was built in the 19th century, originally used as a residential house. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became a place combining the private space of the house and the outer space of the street - then the ground floor of the building was rebuilt and shops were built. The second storey is still used for residential purposes today. It is located at Warszawska Street (former Münsterberg Gasse), which has retained its original historical function, and just as in the Middle Ages, it is the main communication street inside the city.

Description of the structure

The tenement house is a corner building, located at the intersection of Warszawska and Królowej Jadwigi Streets. It is located a short distance from the market square, in the centre of the old town layout. It was built of brick and plastered. It is a two-storey building with a usable attic, covered with a gable roof with an apex. It was built on a rectangular floor plan, elongated along the north-south axis. The northern front elevation is tri-axial. The ground level is defined by a secondarily placed storefront space and an entrance opening to its left. Above the level of the second storey, it is separated by a simple under-window cornice, and the elevation is closed by the main cornice. The axes are marked here by window openings framed by profiled bands. The side, eastern elevation consists of three asymmetrically spaced axes in the ground floor, two of which have been added secondarily. Above, the two axes of the second storey are defined by rectangular windows, while the five-axis part of the gable is defined on the axis by a blind window and window openings and small semi-circular windows on its sides. The southern elevation is 2-axial, articulated similarly to the northern elevation. The building has no distinct style features.

Visitor access: The monument is open to visitors.
