History

The building of the so-called Red Granary was erected in the early 19th century. It was used as a crop and feed storage by the merchants of Gorzów Wielkopolski. After 1945, it was used by the Communal Cooperative “Samopomoc Chłopska” as a warehouse. Since the late 1980s, it has remained unused. The roof of the building was renovated recently.

Description

The Granary is located in the southern part of the town, on the left bank of the Warta river. It stands at the intersection of Grobla and Wał Okrężny streets. The building represents a historicising form typical for the 19th-century industrial architecture. It was erected on a floor plan resembling a trapezium. It has three storeys. Its body is compact and formed as an irregular polyhedron, topped with a multi-faceted roof. On the basement and ground floor level, the building is made of brick, and in the upper section, it is based on a timber frame with brick infills, lined with red brick. The façades are articulated with windows and lesenes separating them, as well as cornices and strips of decoratively arranged bricks. The openings are without joinery and partly bricked up. The interior has a three-bay layout and is covered with beamed ceilings.

No visitor access to the monument.
