Address
Gdynia, Celna 2

Location

It is one o the first companies in the sea trade port in Gdynia, which was emerging at that time.

The building was designed in the style of expressive functionalism. The mill has retained the same function from its inception to the present day.

History

The Market Hall Complex in Gdynia was designed by famous architects Jerzy Mueller and Stefan Reychman and built in 1937.

Description

The complex is spatially and functionally uniform and exhibits outstanding compositional qualities.

The main production building consists of six storeys and is cuboid in shape. It was built on a rectangular floor plan. The vertical communication layout is made up of an avant-corps added to the building. The wooden planked floors and two reinforced concrete staircases have been preserved.

The building served as administrative offices, now it is used for residential purposes. It is a simple three-storey structure having the shape a cuboid. The preserved original interior fittings include: door joinery, wooden floors, and wooden staircase. Both components of the complex are stylistically uniform and have characteristic façades incorporating white and red strips, made of plaster and tapestry brick.

The main building features a mixed structure: reinforced concrete framework filled with ceramic bricks and wooden beamed and reinforced concrete ceilings.

The administrative building, which is now used for housing, was traditionally made of brick.

No visitor access to the building. The building is located in the port area. Viewing of the monument is only possible in organised groups with a guide on specific days.
