Location
woj. wielkopolskie, pow. pilski, gm. Wyrzysk - obszar wiejski

A knightly hillfort in Krajna on the Pomerania-Wielkopolska border.

History

A conical castle with a residual moat. Glesno (Glistno) was first mentioned in 1418, when parson Maciej and Katarzyna, the widow of Sędziwoj from Glesno, were mentioned; in 1454 Michał Tucholka de Glisno was mentioned.

Description of the structure

Location of the historic structure. To the east of the farm buildings, 450 m to the east of the church, on a small peninsula on Glesno Lake.

Description of the site. An earthen mound with a poorly preserved moat outline.

History of the site. Known as early as the interwar period, initially interpreted as a settlement. Entered in the register of historic monuments in 1968, number of entry: 83/C

Progress and findings of archaeological research. Field research by Bonifacy Zielonka, who recorded fragments of early medieval and medieval vessels and animal bones on the surface and in the humus layer. In 1991 research was conducted within the AZP (Polish Archaeological Record) project. Noteworthy is the erratic boulder deposited by the church tower with a simplified “oranta” rite. The stone is rhomboidal in shape, 110 cm long, 87 cm wide and 24 cm thick. The relief was originally located within the first Gothic church, which was demolished in 1925. The stone from Glesno was discovered in 1977 by Tadeusz Chrzanowski and Marian Kornecki. They identified it as a 12th century tomb monument from the early Christianization of Pomerania.

Visitor access. The site is not easily accessible, fenced from the manor farm, visible from the dirt road.
