The church is a rare example of folk architecture originating from the 17th century.

History of the structure

Nowa Wioska (Neudörfel) is situated in an area whose large parts belonged to the Cistercian abbey in Gościkowo. At the initiative and by donation of abbot Achatius the church of St Anne was built here. The construction took place most likely in 1670, while its consecration in 1676. The Cistercians were owners of Nowa Wioska until 1810, i.e. to the moment their estates were secularised. After 1853 the local estates were taken over by the Loose family. The wooden filial Church of St Anne was built using the timber-framing structure and was surrounded by a stone, plastered wall. Since the end of World War II the church has been renovated several times. During the renovation works a base made of bales was replaced with a stone and concrete foundation and the roof cover was modified. A pulpit was removed from the interior and the walls were covered with a strip-shaped decoration.

Site description

The aisleless church was set on a rectangular floor plan with a semi-hexagonal terminating vista on the east side. The nave body and the chancel are covered with a shared multi-pitched roof. A square tower was erected on the west side in the roof ridge, crowned with a bulbous Baroque cupola with a lantern. The main body is adjoined on the south side by a sacristy, and on the west side by a porch. The church façades are covered with weatherboards and crowned with a cornice. Windows topped with segmental arches were installed in the walls. The temple interior features a faux barrel vault and a flat ceiling that obscures the west gallery. The chancel section features a Baroque altar from around 1630. Another historic element is the floor made of ceramic tiles, which is formed by checkerboard-like red-and-white tiles in its main part.

Visitor access. The church can be seen from the outside throughout the year, while the interior can be visited upon arrangement with the parish priest.
