The palace outbuilding in classical style is an example of 19th century residential buildings for the court servants.

It is located in the economic part of the palace complex.

History of the structure

The Kavalierhaus, as the residential house for the administrator was called, was built around 1800, when a fundamental reconstruction of the Starościn estate was undertaken. At that time, a classical outbuilding was built at the entrance to the complex. It was probably built thanks to the heirs of Konrad Saurm von Jeltsch, who owned the estate until 1945. The outbuilding was rebuilt in 1937 and after the war when it was adapted to apartments. In the 1970s, the spatial layout of the interior was completely changed. The building was also designed to serve as a teacher’s house.

Description of the structure

The outbuilding is located in the north-western part of the village, and was situated in the southern part of the palace complex, constituting an integral structure in the economic part of the palace. Situated almost parallel to the road, with its main elevation facing north towards the palace, it is surrounded by a park (transformed into a landscape park) along the southern edge of the park’s fence, there is also a hornbeam alley with a viewing axis on the outbuilding. It is a brick, plastered, free-standing building, built on a rectangular floor plan, one-storey with a usable attic, topped with a hipped roof covered with tiles and sheet metal (the roof of the portico and the ox-eye window). The five-axis front elevation is accentuated by a pseudo-avant-corps slightly protruding above the building face and a recessed portico. A pair of Tuscan columns is flanked by even pilasters. They carry simplified entablature and a low abutment with a segmental closed window. The external plaster is rusticated in horizontal strips with marked pseudo-voussoir in the lintels of window and door openings, except for the portico. The main entrance is closed with a three-centred arch. The western gable elevation is four-axis, two-storey, horizontally divided by the lower gable cornice. In the extreme axes of the gable there are windows with semi-full arch. The interior has a two-tract layout with a hallway on the axis.

Visitor access: the building can be viewed from the outside.
