40 years, namely from the end of the 19th century to the 1930s. The farm is an authentic, excellently preserved in situ former farm of wealthy residents of Czarna Góra.
History
The oldest buildings at the farm, the cottage and the stable, were erected in the late 19th century by Alojzy Chyży. In 1919, Chyży extended the house by a room and a storage, and the stable by a pitch and a sheepcote. In 1930, his daughter Elżbieta with her husband, Sebastion Korkosz, moved to the farm. Soon thereafter, the Korkosz family extended the cottage, built another, brick stable, and a carriage house and a pigsty. In the old stable, a horse mill was installed. In the 1940s, in the place of the storage, another room with entrance from an added porch was built. During the 1950s, the Korkosz family moved to Czechoslovakia, and the abandoned and dilapidating farm was donated by them in 1980 to the Polish State Treasury, with the intention to create a museum of Spisz culture in it. In 1981, the Museum of the Tatra Mountains commenced conservation and renovation works in the buildings. The works were completed in 1983. The renovation works included, among other things, the replacement of mould infested wooden structural elements of the building, and the reinforcement of foundations. At present, there is an ethnographic exposition in the farm, presenting the life in the country in the Spisz region from the 19th and the 1st half of the 20th century. Farm of the Korkosz family is currently a branch of the Museum of the Tatra Mountains in Zakopane.
Description
The farm is located in the northern part of Czarna Góra, in the hamlet of Zagóra. It was built on a floor plan shaped as a letter “U” and is comprised of buildings enclosing a yard from three sides. The farm is comprised of a single-bay cottage with two rooms - grand room and host room, and kitchen and hallway. The utility part, comprising the horse mill room, pitch, sheepcote, and stable with carriagehouse, is added perpendicularly to the residential part. The stable is made of brick, and all other buildings are wooden, based on a log structure, and in some fragments - on a post-and-frame structure. The buildings are covered by interlocking gablet roofs laid with wood shingles. The furnishing is comprised of equipment (e.g. carpenter’s and weaving workshop), and farming tools (inter alia groat mill, manual quern, linen processing tools), used one day by the residents of Czarna Góra. The most interesting artefacts include a groomsman hat, used only in this very village.
The historic monument is accessible. Farm of the Korkosz family is a branch of the Museum of the Tatra Mountains in Zakopane. The interior is accessible during the opening hours of the museum.
