An example of a church made of wooden logs.

History

The first mentions of the local parish priest in written sources date back to 1376. The existing church was erected somewhere around the year 1695, replacing an earlier church, which had also been a wooden structure. In 1922, a tall, brick foundation was added. In years 1956-1957 and 1975, the church underwent renovation works, with wood panelling being installed inside the temple at that time.

Description

The church is a wooden log structure positioned atop a tall, brick foundation, its walls clad with weatherboards. The church is a single-nave building with a narrower chancel featuring a semi-hexagonal termination and adjoined to the north by a sacristy with a patrons’ gallery on the first floor level. A square post-and-beam tower preceded by a single-storey porch adjoins the church to the west. The roofs are covered with wood shingles. The main altarpiece with the sculpture of St. Giles was created somewhere around the year 1700. Inside the chancel, Gothic sculptures portraying what is believed to be St. Hedwig and St. Giles are positioned atop decorative corbels. The remaining Baroque furnishings have been relocated to the church from an Evangelical temple in Twardogóra.

Limited access to the historic building.
