The palace is situated in the western part of the village, at the eastern verge of a landscape park. No major alterations have been made to the structure. The presented building is an important element in the spatial layout of Brzostowa.

History

The first information of Brzostowa comes from 1381, when the village belonged to the State Country of Żary. In 1443, Urlich von Biberstein transferred the village for life to Anna, wife of Czesław Gebelzig. Brzostowa remained in the hands of the Gebelzig family until 1610, when it was sold to Albrecht von Zeschau. In 1674, the village was taken over again by the family of Gebelzig. Hans Christoph von Gebelzig became its owner, and 10 years later, the estate went into the hands of his son-in law, Wolf Friedrich von Heyde. In 1740, the estate became property of Hanns Karl von Zedlitz. It is probable that members of the Rabenau and Schade families also lived there. In the mid-19th century Brzostowa became property of the von Bruenau family who purchased it from Henrietta Schade. The palace was erected around 1860 in the western part of the village. Together with it, also utility buildings were constructed and a landscape park was created. In 1879, the estate went into the hands of Anton Matthias Schön. Hostilities of the Second World War did not lead to major damage to the building. After the war, local government took over ownership of the building. Since 1945, the structure had served as a State Agricultural Holding (PGR). In the 1960s, the interior of the palace was renovated because of the adaptation of its premises for residential purposes. At that time, reinforced concrete ceilings and staircases were installed, and door woodwork was replaced, among other things. In 1987, the roof was renovated. At present, the condition of the building is not good; the building needs renovation. It houses residential premises. The palace has remained property of the local government.

Description

The building was erected in approx. 1860. It is located in the western part of the village, by the road to Piotrowice. It was built in the neo-Renaissance style. The front façade of the building faces east, and its back façade - the park.

The structure is built of brick. It was constructed on a floor plan similar to a rectangle. The palace is formed by a two-storey main body with basements underneath, avant-corps, single-storey annex, and four-storey tower. Individual sections are covered with a separate multi-hipped roof. The roof is clad in beaver tail tiles. The design of the front façade included nine axes, with a three-axial avant-corps in the central section. In the avant-corps, there is main entrance. The door opening is decorated with a portal and made up of two pilasters supporting a triangular pediment. Above, over the central window, there is a coat of arms cartouche. The palace’s façades feature varied architectural detail. The front façade is adorned, among other things, with rusticated lesenes, cornices, window surrounds and pediments. Other façades are similar in finishing detail to the front façade. Individual storeys are pierced with rectangular window openings. Part of the windows have segmental arches in their top sections. The interior has been significantly modified, the original décor is missing. Part of the original window woodwork has survived. The body of the building has been preserved in its original state without major changes.

The facility is a monument owned by local government. Due to the fact that it houses residential premises, the building is not widely available to the public.
