The church in Boroszyn is a valuable and rare example of Protestant sacred architecture, erected on a log structure.

History

It was built in 1648, in the place of a former church referred to in 1426 and used by Protestants until 1520. In 1690, a tower was added to the new church. The church was renovated in 1709, 1711, and 1901. After World War II, it was taken over by Catholics. In 1968, in the place of a wooden sacristy, a new one was built of brick. Probably also at that time, the main altar was moved without the pulpit decker to the chancel wall. For that purpose, the eastern gallery was removed. At that time, the roof cladding was changed from slate into sheet metal. In the 1990s, the cladding was changed once again and wooden elements underwent conservation. In 1997, the interior was painted.

Description

The church is located in the village centre, on a slightly elevated plot of land overgrown with old trees, remains of a former cemetery. The church yard is circumscribed with a stone and brick wall. The church is oriented.

It is built on a log structure, on a rectangular floor plan, with a square tower from the west, two half-timbered vestibules from the south and a brick sacristy and a half-timbered staircase from the north. The main body is covered by a three-sloped roof which gives way on the north to a small shed roof over the staircase. The annexes are covered with gable roofs, the sacristy - with a three-sloped roof, and the tower features a quadrangular spire. The roofs are covered with sheet metal. In the façades of the body, the log structure in the form of horizontal logs connected in the corners with dovetail joints is clearly visible. The tower, the western façade, and the staircase section are covered with boards. Windows on the ground floor are square in shape, and in the upper storey - rectangular, with segmental arches. The aisleless interior of the church is covered with a wooden false barrel vault, originally adorned with Baroque painted decorations with folk themes, currently covered with paint. In the western part, there is a gallery resting on posts.

The site is open to the public. It can be visited by prior telephone arrangement.
