Manor house complex - Zabytek.pl

Address
Boguszyn, Parkowa 9

Location
woj. wielkopolskie, pow. średzki, gm. Nowe Miasto nad Wartą

The manor house complex in Boguszyn is an interesting example of a 19th-century nobility residence in Greater Poland.

Its form was inspired by Romantic sentiments drawing on medieval motifs. The manor house, clothed in a costume of a fortified castle, and the entrance gate situated on a nearby levee, stylistically uniform, are a material manifestation of the patriotism of the owners of the estate — the Szczaniecki family, who rendered numerous services to Poland.

History

The Boguszyn estate was mentioned in written records for the first time in the 14th century. The first information regards ownership disputes between Hanka Obrowska and her brother Panek Nowomiejski. From the late 15th century to the mid-17th century, Boguszyn was owned by the Rozdrażewski family, and subsequently — by the Grzymałowskis and the Grabskis. In 1753, the village was purchased by Michał Sczaniecki. After 1878, Boguszyn had German owners; from 1912 to 1943, it belonged to Maksymillian Jouanne. The estate was taken over by the State Treasury in 1945. The manor house, founded by the Sczaniecki family, was built in the 1840s. Currently, it is not used (renovation works undertaken in the early 21st century have not been continued). The gate on the levee was built in the 2nd half of the 19th century, probably by Colonel Ludwik Sczaniecki, an adjutant of Henryk Dąbrowski and a participant in the November Uprising and the uprising of 1848.

Description

The village of Boguszyn is located by a road connecting Książ with Nowe Miasto upon the Warta River. The manor house, park, and farm complex is situated in the north-eastern part of the village. The Gothic Revival manor house, having a rectangular floor plan, has two storeys and is covered with a gable roof. The walls are made of brick. On the south-west side, it is adjoined by annexes and a four-storeyed tower having a flat roof concealed behind a crenellated parapet. The front façade faces the west. In 2010, the palace had makeshift roof covering with numerous holes. There were numerous damp patches on the walls. The windows were walled up with a brick mesh. There was no flooring and no wall plaster on the ground floor. The gate, made of brick and not covered with plaster, has the form of a triumphal arch crowned with a crenellated parapet. It is located on a levee by a park pond. The southern part of its structure is reinforced with reinforced concrete panels and anchor plates. The gate is in danger of collapse. Numerous bricks are missing at the top of the structure, in the crenellated parapet part. Originally, the gate was a dominant element of the main driveway leading to the manor house, running along the pond and through the park. The manor house and the gate on the levee are surrounded by the remains of a seriously neglected landscape park, characterised by a diversified path layout, of which only individual trees now remain.

The complex can only be visited from the outside.
