An example of a late-Baroque sacred structures in Lesser Poland, originally distinguished by lavish stucco decoration of the interior (currently fragmentary preserved).

A complex of late-Baroque and Rococo altars, an ambo and pipe organ casing of the 60s.-70s. of the 18th century constitute one of the most interesting sets of that type in northern Lesser Poland. Of equal value is the double tomb of Krzysztof and Anna Podłęski originating from the period after 1621 (attributed to an unidentified artist from Chęciny).

History

Bogoria was granted town rights in years 1616-19. In connection to the chartering of 1620, castellan of Połaniec Krzysztof Podłęski founded a wooden filial church of the Holy Trinity in the town and brought canons regular of atonement called "Marks". The granting of ownership was approved in 1625 by suffragan of Cracow, bishop Tomasz Oborski. After 1626, the monks placed a painting of Our Lady of Consolation made on commission of priest Just Pomorski by Jan Sochner in Cracow. As of 1646, the painting became famous in the vicinity because of numerous graces. In 1681, the church was consecrated. In 1685, a parish was founded to it. In 1748, the owners of Bogoria Michał and Teresa Konarscy started the construction of a brick and stone church in the place of the existing one. In 1750, it was almost completed. In the 60s-70s of the 17th century, the church was provided with new fittings. In 1778, it was consecrated. In the early 19th century, the church underwent renovation. After the death of priest Feliks Łaszczykiewicz — the last parish priest of the canons regular — in 1827, the parish church went under the supervision of unconsecrated clergy. During the 70s of the 19th century, a number of construction and reconstruction works founded by parishioners and patrons were carried out, including brick fence construction in 1872, and steeple repair in 1878 (flashing and carpentry by Karol Zwijewski from Sandomierz).  In 1893, as a result of a lightning strike, the roof of the building was destroyed. It was repaired in the next few years. In 1914, the church's interior was covered with wall painting by Zdzisław Lenartowicz. During the war in years 1944-45, the church's roof was damaged once again. In 1970s, a thorough renovation of the building was conducted (a number of fitting elements were removed, inter alia: late-Baroque pews and confessionals) In years 2008-14, almost entire fitting, including the painting of Our Lady of Consolation, subject to coronation in 2010, underwent thorough conservation works.

Description

The complex is situated in the southern part of the village, on a hill, on an oval square surrounded by walls. It comprises a Baroque church, belfry, former cemetery and stone fence with gates. The church located in the centre of the former cemetery is an oriented, one-nave building, with three bays and square chancel, lower and narrower that the church itself, with a straight ending section. The chancel is adjoined from the north by a low, rectangular sacristy. The eastern bay of the nave is framed at the sides by a lower rectangular porch from the north and a lower square chapel of St. Anna from the south. The church is made of brick and entirely plastered. It is covered with a gable roof (over the nave with a steeple, and over the chancel and the chapel) and a shed roof (over sacristy and porch). A two-storey, three-axis façade with a concave-convex gable ending in a semi-circular section, divided by pilasters and enriched by niches featuring sculptures and windows in surrounds with accentuated corners, stands out on the background of the other, modest façades of the building.  The church's interior is covered with barrel vault with lunettes (over the nave), double barrel vault (over the chancel, with stucco decoration, and over sacristy and porch). In the nave, mainly on the rood wall, there are stucco decorations. Among the interior fittings, the following items are worth attention, among other things: ambo, choir, and altar complex of the 60s-70s of the 18th century (in the altar, mainly the painting of Our Lady of Consolation of 1626 by Jan Sochner) and double tomb of Podłęscy of the 20s of the 17th century (by an unidentified sculptor from Chęciny). An electric belfry located by the walls on the western axis of the church's façade is a two-storey building on a square plan. It is made of brick and entirely plastered, and covered with a tented roof. Façades of the building, framed in the corners by rustication with entablature, is divided by horizontal cornices broken on the axis. Window and entrance openings of the structure are emphasised by stone surrounds. The area of the oval church cemetery (currently not used) is demarcated by stone fencing with three gates. In the cemetery, there are a couple of gravestones of the 19th century.

The historic building is accessible to visitors. It may be visited upon prior telephone appointment.
